BIO
Let me introduce myself, I am Richard Blumenstein. I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin which by my senior year 80 percent of my classes was art. After High School I decided to try my hand at factory work. Seeing that factory work did not hold my interest the next year I was enrolled in college.
I studied at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design for two years. My initial course of study was Fine Arts; however, I soon realized that while I love drawing and painting, I did not see the career potential after I graduated. I soon afterward transferred to Chicago for a BFA in Computer Animation and Multimedia.
During my college experience in Chicago, I worked as a Teacher's Assistant. Outside of my coursework, I was chosen as an Administrative Assistant at Siggraph 99' where I helped the administration coordinate the convention. I found Siggraph to be a wellspring of knowledge. For those of you interested in computer animation, film and gaming graphics, I highly recommend it. After college I worked for several smaller companies but, unfortunately the economy took a dive and I was let go.
At this point I decided to create my own company. Were I work mainly in graphics, illustration, multimedia, and I continue to work on my skills in 3d as well as digital painting. I had my own art booth in Gencon05 where I promoted my art skills. I learned a lot from that trip. I started teaching at ITT Technical Institute in Green Bay as a Multimedia Instructor. After a little bit of urging I started my master’s degree from University of Phoenix. Once that was finished I was offered the full time Game Instructor Position. For the last couple of years I have been working as an instructor at ITT as the full time games instructor as well as working in my company. It was a lot of work teaching myself the Torque Games Engine but now that is under my belt I have found that it opens up a whole new level of artwork. I went to GDC (Game Developers Conference) this year with a college and learned a whole slew of information about the gaming industry. I am currently working on different artwork now as well as looking for a new game engine.
